The Global Summit

The Global Summit™(TGS) bi-annual event series is the catalyst for a new world wide partnership of citizens, businesses and organizations dedicated to building a sustainable future.

The Global Summit (TGS) is much more than an event. It is a strategic educational outreach initiative of parent organization, Empowerment Works (EW) which has been innovating systemic approaches to global sustainability since 2001.

Uniting global Partners in Empowerment (PIE) in year-round collaborations; TGS acts as a catalyst for EW’s systemic approach to community development: 7 Stages to Sustainability.

Officially co-created Nov. 16-18, 2008 by EW and a growing, multi-sector network of Partners in Empowerment (PIE), The Global Summit is the capstone of the Empowerment Works eco-system, and an income-generating enterprise with all proceeds supporting on-the-ground, sustainable development programs.

Dedicated to occuring in a different world bio-region (and continent) every other year, TGS unites the most dedicated social and environmental change makers, powerful leaders, and grass-roots citizens to co-create global solutions, catalyze local action, and share what works for a sustainable world.

Program Elements and Outcomes

Through the following program elements, TGS delivers a whole-system approach, affecting policy making, philanthropy, and technology and elevating the primary vehicles of social, economic and environmental change.

  • Civic Action – The “Global Citizen Solutions Council”, a voluntary commitment forum, allows individuals to co-create global solutions to the issues that affect them most.
    Impact:
  • Provide new model for global policy making: Citizen input-driven format applies advances in conflict mediation and information technology for transparent, equitable and measurable results.
  • Philanthropy – The “SEED Change Forum” unites change makers in all sectors of society, educating participants and forming a synergistic philanthropic partnership.

Impact:

  • Advances the Earth Charter (for a sustainable environment) and Millennium Development Goals (to half poverty by 2015) by reducing duplication and increasing collective social, economic and environmental impact.
  • Technology – The “Sustainable Technology Expo” promotes transfer of green and grass-roots-friendly technologies, via efficiency-based awards, investment forums, and education, advancing the Kyoto Protocol/Copenhagen targets.

Impact:

  • Catalyzes immediate climate change solutions and sustainable economic development.
